Xiaomi is actually the second largest wearable device company. Who is the first?

According to the latest report from market research firm IDC, global shipments of wearable devices in the first quarter of this year reached 11.4 million, more than triple the 3.8 million shipments in the same period last year.

The report also shows that Android Wear is far from the success that Google expected, and fitness bracelets are currently much more popular than smartphones.

The report ranks the world's largest wearable device vendors based on shipments. Please note that this ranking only considers shipments in the first quarter of 2015, before the Apple Watch was launched.

According to IDC, Fitbit was the world's largest wearable device supplier in the first quarter of this year, with shipments of 3.9 million units, up significantly from 1.7 million units in the same period last year. This is equivalent to a 34.2% market share, down from 44.7% in the first quarter of 2014. Wearable devices were still in their early stages of development at the beginning of last year, with relatively few competitors.

Xiaomi ranked second, shipping 2.8 million wearable devices in the first quarter of 2015, accounting for 24.6% of the market. Xiaomi currently sells one wearable product: the $15 MiBand.

Samsung ranked fourth in IDC's report, with 600,000 wearable devices shipped in the first quarter of this year. Samsung is the only Android Wear smartwatch manufacturer to make it into the top five. It is worth mentioning that Samsung is currently producing seven smartwatches, only the Gear Live is equipped with the Android Wear system, and the rest use Samsung's self-developed Tizen system.

Since the Apple Watch was launched in April this year, the ranking may be very different in the future. Apple has not yet disclosed the shipment volume of the Apple Watch, but it is very likely that Apple will take the top spot in the ranking next quarter.
