South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport: South Korea's new energy vehicle ownership exceeds 1 million

Data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea on Monday showed that the number of motor vehicles in South Korea is close to 25 million, of which more than 1 million are new energy vehicles. Specifically, as of the end of September, a total of 24.78 million motor vehicles were registered. This is an increase of 410,000 vehicles, or 1.7%, from the 24.36 million vehicles at the end of last year; and an increase of 136,000 vehicles, or 0.5%, from the 24.64 million vehicles at the end of June this year. It is expected that the number of motor vehicles in South Korea will exceed 25 million in the first quarter of next year.

By fuel type, the number of new energy vehicles in China was 1.063 million, an increase of 90,000 from the end of June, a growth rate of 9.2%; the number of gasoline vehicles in China was 11.68 million, an increase of 0.6%; and the number of diesel vehicles in China was 9.9 million, a decrease of 0.2%.

Among new energy vehicles, the number of pure electric vehicles was 201,000, an increase of 16.4%; the number of hybrid models was 844,000, an increase of 7.6%; and the number of hydrogen energy vehicles was 17,000, an increase of 12.2%. From the perspective of the proportion of new energy vehicles in motor vehicles, it was 2% at the end of 2018, 2.5% at the end of 2019, 3.4% at the end of 2020, and 4.3% in September this year, showing an increasing trend year by year.
