Toyota says it is developing more advanced electric car batteries that can extend driving range by 15%

 

According to Reuters, Toyota Motor Corp. recently said that it plans to develop a more advanced electric vehicle battery in the next few years that will improve the range and battery life of the company's existing battery technology by nearly 15%.

Toyota Motor Battery Technology Researcher Hisao Yamashige said in a media briefing that the advancement of lithium-ion battery technology is critical to the electrification of automobiles, so the company has made it clear that it will improve and enhance the performance of this technology. Not only does Toyota, a traditional automaker, have to work on improving the performance of lithium-ion batteries, but Tesla, an upstart in the automotive industry, also faces this biggest obstacle to further expansion of electric vehicles.

Whether it is pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles or traditional gas-electric hybrid vehicles, manufacturers are working hard to explore and develop more advanced battery technologies to improve vehicle range (parameters, pictures, inquiries) , battery life and safety.

Toyota, Japan's largest automaker, has pioneered gasoline-electric hybrid technology and released a plug-in hybrid model, the Prius Prime. The company plans to launch a fully electric battery car by 2020.

Yamashige said that after working with Japanese public-funded laboratories and four Japanese universities to develop lithium-ion battery technology, Toyota engineers have a better understanding of how lithium ions move inside the electrode. This will give engineers more design inspiration to solve the current problem that limits the life and endurance of lithium batteries - the movement and aggregation of lithium ions in the electrode is extremely uneven, and this problem will also cause the battery to overheat.
