CES2017 BMW autonomous driving surprises with road-friendly robots to help you park and park

Recently, at CES 2017, Segway Robotics released a developer version of its product, announced a new exterior design, and officially named Segway Robot Loomo. It is worth noting that BMW became the first third-party developer officially announced by Loomo.

During CES, BMW displayed an application developed based on Lumeng in the autonomous driving area outside the main entrance of the venue. The black robot Lumeng took on the role of parking assistant in the BMW autonomous driving car experience area. This BMW application is mainly used to reduce the time wasted in finding parking spaces. Specifically, at the end of the autonomous driving journey, the navigation system in the BMW 5 Series will remind passengers that there is a robot coming to greet and guide them. The robot Lumeng will hold up a 13-inch display screen to remind passengers in the car that the autonomous driving car will follow it. The robot Lumeng walks forward and, in autonomous navigation mode, leads the car to the drop-off point and prompts the passengers in the car to get off. After the passengers get off, the autonomous car continues to drive to the empty space indicated by the robot Lumeng to complete parking.
The app was developed based on the software development kit of the robot Lumeng, calling the connection and navigation APIs and using the built-in emoticons. After joining the Segway Robotics Developer Program, BMW completed the development of the "Autonomous Driving Car Parking Assistant" app in just one month.
The robot Lumeng is a robot platform based on the Ninebot balance car. It has a built-in Android mobile and scalable system, a built-in Intel Atom quad-core processor, and is equipped with sensors and input and output devices including a RealSense depth camera, motion tracking module, 4+1 microphone array, ultrasonic obstacle detection sensor, mechanical stabilization system, electric field touch system, etc.
Just as robotics technology has demonstrated in areas such as warehouse picking and autonomous driving, robots with powerful mobility can bring great efficiency improvements in many scenarios. Segway Group's pioneering invention in the field of two-wheeled self-balancing vehicles provides mobile robots with flexible, compact and efficient "legs". Born out of the Ninebot self-balancing vehicle, the chassis of Lumeng has undergone multiple iterations and has reached consumer-grade requirements in terms of cost and reliability. Lumeng can not only provide users with short-distance transportation services within a radius of 3-5 kilometers, but also navigate in parks, parking lots, communities and other environments, and complete various tasks autonomously.
In terms of autonomous navigation, the robot Lumeng can use multi-dimensional information such as vision and GPS for information fusion. Therefore, it can easily cope with various needs in indoor, outdoor and mixed conditions. In addition, this application also verifies the concept of hardware expansion and adds a second screen for information display. BMW Germany fully leverages the unique advantages of the robot Lumeng.
Since the developer program was announced in April last year, the official has received thousands of developer applications from all over the world, including Facebook, Amazon, Google, MIT, eBay, etc. These developers are mainly concentrated in six areas: consumer services, medical care, remote collaboration, entertainment games, education, AI research and applications. In addition to the BMW announced this time, heavyweight partners will be announced and products will be displayed in the near future. Currently, institutions and individual developers can submit applications through the Segway Robotics official website. After screening, they can be invited to join the Segway Robotics developer program and be eligible to purchase the developer version of the robot Lu Meng.
