The development of autonomous driving is accelerating, and test cars will be on the highway next year

At the end of 2017, Beijing was the first city to allow autonomous driving road testing. The Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle Industry White Paper (2018), released on October 21, stipulates that in 2019, Beijing will allow autonomous driving vehicles to carry out autonomous driving on the Yanchong Expressway and service areas.

It took only one year from the start of road testing to the test car driving onto the highway. The progress of autonomous driving road testing in my country is astonishingly fast.

After Beijing allowed road testing of self-driving cars at the end of last year, many cities also issued policies and issued local self-driving road testing licenses. Shanghai, Chongqing, Changsha, Shenzhen, Changchun, Pingtan, Zhaoqing and other cities have issued relevant policies to promote the development of self-driving road testing.

Beijing has become the city with the longest road test mileage, the most open test roads, and the most extensive distribution of test license plates in the country. Its autonomous driving test roads have reached 123 kilometers, covering a variety of road traffic environments such as urban trunk roads, secondary trunk roads, branch roads, and park trunk roads, fully meeting the research and development and testing needs of autonomous driving for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Shanghai released open test roads for intelligent connected vehicles twice in March and September. The total length of test roads has reached 37.2 kilometers and can be used for research and development testing of passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

The management regulations for autonomous driving test roads in various parts of the country emphasize "closing" before "opening", requiring companies to conduct sufficient actual vehicle testing in a closed factory area before applying for public road testing.

On April 12 this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Transport jointly issued the first national-level autonomous driving road test document - "Intelligent Connected Vehicle Road Testing Management Specifications (Trial)", which supports and regulates autonomous driving road testing at the national level.

At present, more than 20 companies in my country have obtained autonomous driving road test licenses. These companies are mainly passenger car companies. Traditional vehicle manufacturers include SAIC, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi China, FAW, Changan, GAC, Geely, BAIC New Energy, Dongfeng, etc.; new forces in car manufacturing include Weilai, Pony.ai, etc.; technology companies include Baidu, Tencent, Didi, Alibaba, etc.; commercial vehicle companies include King Long, Golden Dragon, TuSimple, and Beiqi Foton, etc.

In the past two years, China has set off a wave of research and development of intelligent network and autonomous driving technology. Automobile companies and Internet and technology companies have carried out close cross-border cooperation. In the future, China's automobile industry is expected to enhance its industrial competitiveness through the development of autonomous driving and intelligent network.
