For safety reasons, the EU requires electric vehicles to add "artificial noise"

Different from the internal combustion engines of traditional cars, the electric motors of electric cars do not produce corresponding noise during the energy conversion process, and this quiet and stable driving experience is also loved by users.

However, according to foreign media reports, the EU has stipulated that newly launched electric vehicles must be equipped with an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS system) to prevent electric vehicles from being too quiet and causing pedestrians to lack awareness. The EU stipulates that the AVAS system must sound an alarm when the electric vehicle speed is less than 19km/h or when reversing.

The report also stated that starting in 2021, the AVAS system will be installed on all new electric vehicles, not just new models. In terms of the sound type of the AVAS system, the EU stipulates that the sound should be similar to (not louder than) the sound of a traditional internal combustion engine. In terms of corresponding legal policies, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States has also taken corresponding measures, stipulating that all hybrid and electric vehicles need to have a corresponding "artificial noise" mechanism before September 2020.
