Toyota plans to launch solid-state batteries in ten years, with a range of 500km after 10 minutes of charging, and the prototype will be unveiled next year

It only takes 10 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%, but the battery life can reach 500km without any safety risks.

Toyota plans to launch a new type of battery that will revolutionize the automotive industry in ten years. Recently, according to a report by Nikkei, Toyota hopes to launch the world's first car equipped with solid-state batteries. The prototype will be launched next year, and the mass-produced version is planned to be launched in the early next decade.

Currently, almost all electric vehicles use lithium-ion batteries, which use electrolyte solutions. The development of electric vehicles has been in a bottleneck for a long time. The so-called solid-state battery, as the name suggests, uses solid electrolytes. Compared with lithium-ion batteries, the risk of high-temperature explosions is greatly reduced, and the battery capacity has been doubled.

It is reported that Toyota is developing a solid-state battery car, which can achieve a range of twice that of traditional lithium-ion batteries under the same conditions, making electric vehicles also compact.

The Nikkei reported that electric vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries can be fully charged in just 10 minutes, which is three times faster than traditional electric vehicles.

In the field of solid-state batteries, Toyota is at the forefront of the industry, with more than 1,000 patents, and other Japanese automakers have also made plans. It is reported that Nissan is also building its own brand of solid-state battery cars and hopes to launch products before 2028.

In addition to car companies, the upstream of the Japanese automotive supply chain is also actively deploying in the field of this technology. The report stated that Mitsui Kinzoku plans to build a factory in Saitama Prefecture to produce electrolytes for solid-state batteries. It is expected that the output will reach tens of tons starting next year to meet the needs of Japanese car companies to build prototypes.

Japanese oil company Idemitsu Kosan is also building a solid-state battery electrolyte production line at its production base in Chiba City, which is also scheduled to start operations next year.
