Musk admits that FSD needs to be improved, "LiDAR is lagging behind", but outsiders say Tesla is writing a blank check

Although Tesla has always been a leader in the field of autonomous driving, its high accident rate has also raised many questions.

Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into Tesla's autopilot system, covering approximately 765,000 Tesla vehicles in the U.S. The agency believes that since 2018, there have been at least 11 traffic accidents caused by Tesla's assisted driving-related functions.

Now, even Tesla CEO Musk admits that Tesla's FSD system has certain problems. He posted: "In my opinion, FSD Beta 9.2 is not very good, but the autonomous driving and AI teams are working together to make improvements as soon as possible. We are trying to provide a single-stack solution for highways and urban roads, but this requires a lot of neural network retraining."

Regarding Tesla's high accident rate, the outside world generally believes that this is related to the fact that its autonomous driving system radically abandoned radar and adopted a pure vision solution, but Musk said that "radar has been holding us back before."

At the recent Tesla AI Day, Tesla detailed its progress in algorithms, FSD chips, Dojo data centers, etc. However, in the FSD demonstration video, the driver's hands never left the steering wheel. Some well-known foreign media reminded the outside world not to be distracted by the various new terms proposed by Tesla, and not to believe in the empty promises issued by Musk.
