Dongfeng Nissan used to be a far-leading player in the Chinese market. Its cumulative sales of 15 million vehicles in 19 years are enough to make any car company look up to it. However, in the electric era, it no longer has the glory of the past. Its only pure electric SUV, the Aria, sold only 102 and 115 units in June and July this year, respectively, which is roughly equivalent to the sales volume of some domestic new energy brands in a few hours. The sales report recently released by Dongfeng Nissan also directly exposed its predicament - the cumulative sales in August were 64,905 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 34.8%. It never rains but it pours. Because the engine exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) is not tightly sealed, in extreme cases, there may be safety hazards such as low-speed flameout and power interruption. In accordance with the requirements of the national "Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recall", "Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Defective Automobile Product Recall" and "Regulations on the Management of Motor Vehicle Emission Recall", Dongfeng Nissan recently announced plans to recall some Dongfeng Nissan brand X-Trail, New Qashqai, and seventh-generation Teana vehicles produced from July 23, 2018 to September 26, 2021, totaling 1.18 million vehicles. It is reported that the price of EGR valve is not low, ranging from a few hundred to thousands of yuan. Even if it is roughly calculated at 500 yuan per valve, the material cost of this recall alone is as high as 600 million yuan. Adding labor and other expenses, the cost of this recall may easily jump to ten small goals. Yu Chengdong has previously made a judgment that there may only be five players in China's new energy track. Although this may sound a bit harsh, looking at the past Chinese mobile phone market and the current performance of local new energy vehicles, this conclusion may seem reasonable. The era of Japanese cars may really be over, and it will never come back, not only for Nissan, but also Toyota and Honda. As for the "far ahead" in the past, that is all a thing of the past.
