The long-awaited BYD Formula Leopard 5 has finally been announced. The starting price of RMB 289,800 is not only lower than the previous forecast, but also lower than many competing products. In the current market, a sufficiently clever price positioning will undoubtedly have a decisive impact on future sales. It is foreseeable that when price is no longer an obstacle, the Leopard 5, which has already taken the lead in product strength, will surely set off a torrent in the market - making some high-priced vehicles feel uncomfortable and some low-quality vehicles feel panic.

As the pioneering work of the Formula Leopard brand and the first model of BYD's new DMO super hybrid off-road platform, the Leopard 5 is full of power in design, which is the so-called "leopard" power aesthetics. The overall square body is inspired by the "lock" design. From lines to edges, it is full of unyielding masculinity.

In fact, in the long-standing off-road aesthetic mindset of users, a car that can travel through mountains and rivers seems to be square-shelled. Obviously, the designers of Fangchengbao are quick to learn from others and do not think about educating users blindly, but expect to conquer users with a new design language. From the perspective of rapid market introduction, such a design is undoubtedly smart and desirable.

In terms of configuration, Leopard 5 will be mainly electric drive, with dual front and rear motors, 200kW front motor and 285kW rear motor, both of which use direct injection oil cooling, and the rear motor also has the world's first electric low-speed four-wheel drive. The 1.5T high-power Xiaoyun engine and the off-road-specific longitudinal EHS, with a total system power of 505kW and a comprehensive torque of 760N·m, will push the vehicle's overall driving performance to the top position in the industry, with an official acceleration of 4.8s from 0 to 100 kilometers, a pure electric range of 125km under CLTC conditions, and a comprehensive range of more than 1,200km.

As for off-road capabilities, the Leopard 5 is equipped with all the necessary off-road configurations for men, such as the front and rear differential locks and the electric center lock, so it can travel smoothly whether it is climbing mountains or wading through water.

Why do I say that? Because the Leopard 5 was designed to be ready for battle at any time, with a 35° approach angle, a 32° departure angle, a 20° longitudinal passing angle, and a minimum ground clearance of 220mm. If you buy the high-end version, that is, the Yunnian P standard version, its minimum ground clearance can be instantly raised to 310mm.

In terms of interior, the Leopard 5 is not as low-key as previous off-road models. Instead, it adopts a three-screen design. The 15.6-inch 2.5K high-definition central control multimedia screen is in the center, the driver's seat is a 12.3-inch instrument screen, and the co-driver has an exclusive 12.3-inch multimedia entertainment screen.

It is worth mentioning that the interior design of Leopard 5 highlights the "sense of ceremony". The gear lever is upgradeable. It rises slowly when the vehicle starts and falls back to the original point when the engine is turned off. The reason why I want to talk about this point is that this design understands middle-aged men very well. Whether it is a bracelet or sandalwood, aren't the things that middle-aged men play with all for the purpose of highlighting the sense of ceremony? In this regard, the interior designers of Leopard 5 can be said to have grasped the essence of it.

Another extremely outstanding feature of the Leopard 5's "leopard" aesthetics is that its body adopts a non-load-bearing design, and the utilization rate of high-strength steel reaches an astonishing 96%. Generally speaking, a body that uses more than 70% of this type of steel can be boasted about separately, but the Leopard 5 only mentions it in passing, but for the driver and passengers, what this ratio means is obviously self-evident.
