Hidden trap in online red envelopes: Woman clicked on a 500 yuan red envelope and was defrauded of 10,000 yuan

The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and WeChat and Alipay are also fighting over "red envelopes". Recently, Nanjing police have received a series of reports related to red envelopes. You must have never thought that you may be deceived by receiving a red envelope.

Beware of Trojans - I clicked on a 500 yuan red envelope from a "good friend" and was defrauded of 10,000 yuan

Ms. Zhou, a Nanjing resident, often sees red envelope grabbing activities in WeChat chats or Moments. On this day, her "good friend" sent her another red envelope with a link saying to grab a 500-yuan voucher. Ms. Zhou won the first prize of 500 yuan right away.

Unexpectedly, it was quite troublesome to receive the 500 yuan. I had to enter a lot of personal information, from my ID card to my mobile phone number, and I had to fill in my WeChat account. After filling in the information, I had to scan a QR code. Ms. Zhou hesitated for a moment, but thinking that it was a red envelope sent by a "friend", she scanned it boldly. Unexpectedly, this scan ruined everything. In less than 5 minutes, Ms. Zhou received a text message that 10,000 yuan was missing from her bank card.

Ms. Zhou was terrified and immediately called her friend to verify the situation. Her friend replied that her WeChat account had been stolen. Only then did Ms. Zhou realize that she had been cheated and immediately reported the case to the Huaihai Road Police Station.

The police inspected Ms. Zhou's mobile phone and found a Trojan program hidden in the scanned QR code. After collecting Ms. Zhou's identity information, the suspect forwarded Ms. Zhou's payment SMS through the Trojan program, and as a result, Ms. Zhou's bank card was swiped for 10,000 yuan.

According to the police in Nanjing Qinhuai District, in recent years, the number of telecom fraud cases involving scanning QR codes and forwarding website links has increased, with the number in the district increasing by 14.5%. The new fraud is very well disguised, and citizens are advised not to click on unfamiliar text messages and web links at random. If possible, they can install anti-virus software on their phones and scan them regularly.

Beware of scams: Taobao shop owner was cheated out of 8,000 yuan by fake customer service after sending red envelopes

Xiao Liu runs a Taobao store. After one month of opening, business is booming.

Last month, Xiao Liu frequently received Wangwang messages from customers asking him to provide "red envelopes for purchases". But he was a novice and didn't know how to do it, which made Xiao Liu very anxious.

A few days later, Xiao Liu received a call from Taobao Customer Service, who said they could help him activate the red envelope activity. As requested by the other party, Xiao Liu clicked the remote control button on his computer. However, under the other party's "guidance", Xiao Liu still failed to activate the red envelope. What was even more surprising was that the next day, Xiao Liu found that 8,000 yuan was missing from his account.

After receiving the report, Chaotiangong Police Station investigated and found that the criminal gang took advantage of the new online store owner's lack of understanding of Taobao's "rules" and deliberately created a tense atmosphere, prompting the store owner to make wrong judgments and operations. The gang members pretended to be customers and "fake bids" for the new store's products. When the store owner initially believed that there was a customer, the other party frequently proposed red envelope activities, which led the fake customer service behind to start the fraud.

The police reminded that you must be vigilant when encountering unidentified people asking you to send money, transfer money, provide your ID number, bank card number, or click on unknown links.

Don't take advantage - scammers use the name of giving out red envelopes during anniversary events to defraud deposits

At 6 p.m. on January 28, the Nanjing Lukou Airport Police Station received calls from several villagers saying that a performance troupe had come to the village and deceived several villagers into paying deposits in the name of red envelopes for recharging phone bills.

The police at the scene found that the host on the stage was shouting: "It's the jewelry company's anniversary. In order to give back to customers, we are giving away free red envelopes of phone bills. The phone bills and jewelry are worth at least 700 yuan." The host said that in order to achieve the publicity effect, the audience must first take out 200 yuan and let the staff keep it before they can receive it for free.

Some audience members received red envelopes worth 100 yuan for phone bills and jewelry, and many followed suit and handed the money to the staff for safekeeping. Soon, the audience found that most of the red envelopes they received only contained 10 yuan or 5 yuan, and the jewelry was all fake.

The police immediately took the relevant personnel back to the police station. The investigation found that most of the red envelopes were only 10 yuan to 5 yuan, and small amounts were thrown to ordinary audiences, while large amounts of 50 yuan and 100 yuan were given to "shills" in the crowd. Finally, the gang would take advantage of the chaos to throw small red envelopes, and when the audience was scrambling for the red envelopes, they would quietly collect the props and flee.

The police reminded that the scammers are taking advantage of the citizens' desire for bargains and succeeding repeatedly. In this red envelope scam, as long as everyone observes carefully, it is not difficult to find the "shills". If you encounter similar situations, citizens should report to the police in time.

The police pointed out that there is another scam that requires people to impersonate others to ask for red envelopes, which is worth being vigilant about. For example, parents have received calls from people pretending to be their children's "class teacher" asking for New Year's red envelopes, and patients have received calls from fake attending doctors, and there have been cases of people being deceived by this.
