Snapdragon 808 global first test: six-core outperforms eight-core Snapdragon 810

LG G Flex 2 was the first in the world to use Snapdragon 810, and the LG G4 released last night was the first in the world to use Snapdragon 808. The flagship big brother has always been shrouded in the shadow of overheating and frequency reduction, and Samsung has directly abandoned it. How will the younger brother Snapdragon 808 perform?

Apple's sudden entry into the 64-bit mobile era disrupted the plans of chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm to a great extent. The Snapdragon 810/808 can even be said to be the result of a hasty launch, as they directly applied the ARMv8-A 64-bit public version architecture. In addition, since Qualcomm used the new 20nm process for the first time, problems were inevitable.

The Snapdragon 810 MSM8994 is equipped with four A57 2.0GHz, four A53 1.6GHz CPU cores, an integrated graphics core Adreno 430 650MHz, and memory supports dual-channel 64-bit LPDDR4 800MHz.

The Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 uses two A57 1.82GHz and four A53 1.44GHz CPU cores, and the graphics core is also downgraded to Adreno 418 600MHz. The memory supports dual-channel 32-bit LPDDR3 800MHz. This is also Qualcomm's first six-core product .

LG also claimed that the Snapdragon 808 they used was jointly developed with Qualcomm for two years and was specially optimized for the G4 .

So how does it perform? Let's take a look at the actual test.

Comparison object:

- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: Exynos 720

- HTC One M9: Snapdragon 810

- Huawei P8: Kirin 930

- Meizu MX4: MT6595

- Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Snapdragon 805

- LG G3: Snapdragon 801

CPU Performance:

Vellamo Metal and Basemark OS 2 tests show that the performance of Snapdragon 808 has completely surpassed its big brother Snapdragon 810. Two A57s beat four A57s. It has to be said that Snapdragon 810 has become a complete tragedy .

However, it is still some distance away from Exynos 7420. Samsung has made good use of the four A57s, and the 14nm process should be credited for this.

In addition, the Kirin 930 with octa-core A53, the MT6595 with A17+A7 combination, and the Snapdragon 805 with Qualcomm's own architecture are no match for the Snapdragon 808.

Therefore, the performance of the Snapdragon 808 CPU is at an upper level, much higher than the mainstream level, but not yet at the flagship level.

GPU Performance:

At first glance at the GFXBench results, the running score of Snapdragon 810 Adreno 430 is up to or even more than twice that of Snapdragon 808 Adreno 418. But don't forget that the resolution of LG G4 is as high as 2K, while HTC One M9 is only 1080p, so if the same resolution is compared, Adreno 418 will not be that much weaker.

But on the other hand, compared with the Exynos 7420 Mali-T760 at the same 2K resolution, the Snapdragon 808 is a full 1/3 slower, which is still a big gap .

System performance:

AnTuTu's running score shows that the overall strength of Snapdragon 808 is average, far behind Kirin 930 and MT6595. Even though Snapdragon 810 has some problems, it is still far ahead, and Exynos 7420 is even more out of reach .

But at least compared to the Snapdragon 805, it's about 15% better.
