12K resolution! Fury X and Titan X are fighting again

We have just seen the top platforms of the four-way Fury X and four-way Titan X compete in 1080p, 2K, and 4K . I wonder if it is exciting? Next, let's go a step further and take a look at the world of 12K.

Well, there is actually no standard definition of 12K resolution. The general practice is to use three 4K monitors side by side, so it is 3×3840×2160, or 11520×2160, with a total of nearly 25 million pixels. If the refresh rate is 60Hz, then the output pixels per second are close to 1.5 billion!

Of course, you can also place them vertically, which is 6480×3840. In fact, this test was conducted at this resolution, because some monitors (such as the AOC U2868PQU tested this time) with AMD graphics cards will have problems such as screen flickering or complete freeze when three monitors are placed side by side at a resolution of 11520×2160. There is no problem running them vertically at 6480×3840.

Although doing so will result in a bezel that is more than 5 cm thick, almost no one does this in actual applications unless it is a special monitor or there are special needs, but this is a theoretical test after all, so just make do with it.

The graphics cards tested are: GTX 980 Ti 6GB, GTX Titan X 12GB, R9 390X 8GB, R9 Fury X 4GB (note that they are all single cards), and the driver versions are 353.3 and 15.15.1004 respectively.

The test items include a benchmark program and five games.

Battlefield 4: Fury X and Titan X are on par with each other, both barely exceeding 30FPS, playable but not very good. R9 390X is much worse than 980 Ti.

BioShock: Fury X and Titan X both achieved an average frame rate of 30FPS, but the latter had a much higher minimum frame rate and better stability. R9 390X and 980 Ti were completely indistinguishable from each other.

Grand Theft Auto V: NVIDIA's victory. The 980 Ti slightly surpassed the Fury X, but none of them reached 30FPS.

Metro: Last Light: The ranking is exactly the same as above. Titan X and 980 Ti reached or approached 30FPS, but the minimum frame rate was not optimistic, and the best was only 10FPS, which was very laggy.

Tomb Raider: Finally, I found a game that I can play well. Titan X and 980 Ti continue to lead, but Fury X can also reach the bottom line of basic smoothness, and R9 390X barely passes.

Unigine Valley: This time we can clearly see how heavy the price is to go from 4K to 12K, and you will lose 70-80% of your power in an instant.

Obviously, it is a bit difficult for today's top single card to run 12K. It can only be said to be barely playable, and it is definitely not smooth. Titan X's overall performance is much better than Fury X, but at this point it's also the pot calling the kettle black. To run 12K smoothly, at least dual cards or dual cores are needed.
