From naked eyes to luxury, a review of classic TVs from IFA

IFA2015 is about to open. As one of the most famous audio-visual and consumer electronics exhibitions in Europe, the annual IFA exhibition has always seen new technologies and products that lead the development of the industry, which has attracted the attention of a large number of world-renowned people. For example, at the 7th German IFA Consumer Electronics Show in 1930, the famous scientist Einstein opened the German Radio and Phonograph Exhibition, and this exhibition is the predecessor of today's IFA.

The picture shows a prototype called a "television receiver". It took a year to make television programs in Germany in 1931. The Germans called it Videotext, and the product was first introduced at the 1977 IFA electronics show. Subsequently, this service quickly became popular in Europe because it not only provided listeners with news, weather, sports TV program previews and other information, but also users did not need to pay.

3D TV has been the hottest topic in consumer electronics since at least 1983, when Philips showed off a prototype of a 3D TV at the IFA electronics show. In the background of the picture, we can see two laserdisc players and a Philips P2000T home computer. The computer had a built-in cassette drive for storage and was powered by a 2.5MHz Z80 processor.

At the 1985 IFA electronics show, Casio introduced its first two portable televisions. The TV-21 (in the foreground) used a backlit projection screen to make the picture look clearer, while the TV-1000 (in the background) was Casio's first color portable TV and had a 2.5-inch screen.
So after entering the era of flat-panel TVs, what TVs are worth recalling? Let's take a look.
In 2009, LG Display exhibited a 15-inch OLED TV at the IFA Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin, Germany, with a price tag of $2,500, equivalent to about RMB 17,000. This marked the beginning of LG's entry into the OLED TV market.
In 2011, Toshiba exhibited a 3D TV equipped with naked-eye technology at the IFA exhibition. Toshiba's naked-eye 3D technology refers to adding a layer of Toshiba-developed film on the surface of the TV screen to create a 3D effect for the left and right eyes. At the same time, Toshiba's technology is used to repair blurred areas, making the 3D image reach a high-definition effect. Although naked-eye 3D was popular in China for a while, it ultimately failed to form a market due to various reasons.
At the 2012 IFA exhibition, Haier unveiled its masterpiece, the Brainwave TV, which allows users to control programs and games on the TV through their brains. To gain the ability to control the TV, users must first place a brainwave receiver on their heads and interact with the TV through the device. Users can use brainwave signals, i.e. thoughts, to control the TV, and can control games through thoughts, such as carrying, lifting heavy objects, aiming, jumping, and other actions.
Haier Brainwave TV reads different brain waves generated by neural activity and converts them into digital signals to control the TV, effectively improving the user's learning ability and quickly reaching the best state, which can exercise the brain's attention and relaxation. For the first time in the industry, the control of the TV has been transformed from tangible to intangible, with the human brain replacing the remote control.

At the 2012 IFA exhibition, Samsung also launched its highly anticipated 55-inch ES9500 OLED TV in Europe for the first time. Later, for some reasons, it gradually shifted from large-screen OLED to small-screen OLED.
TCL's dual-screen TVs were also popular at the 2012 IFA show. Dual-screen TVs can display two TV screens, and different images can be viewed by wearing different 3D glasses.
There are also many European luxury TV brands at the IFA exhibition, such as Loewe, where a customized TV costs up to RMB 400,000 or 500,000.
Loewe is a high-end home appliance brand in Europe, which brings high-end personalized enjoyment to users, including unique/user-friendly design, customized operating system and home furnishing matching, etc. For example, it cooperated with piano manufacturer Fazioli to create a red textured TV.

As a winner of Toutiao's Qingyun Plan and Baijiahao's Bai+ Plan, the 2019 Baidu Digital Author of the Year, the Baijiahao's Most Popular Author in the Technology Field, the 2019 Sogou Technology and Culture Author, and the 2021 Baijiahao Quarterly Influential Creator, he has won many awards, including the 2013 Sohu Best Industry Media Person, the 2015 China New Media Entrepreneurship Competition Beijing Third Place, the 2015 Guangmang Experience Award, the 2015 China New Media Entrepreneurship Competition Finals Third Place, and the 2018 Baidu Dynamic Annual Powerful Celebrity.
