JD Power's recently released U.S. New Car Initial Quality Study reveals the disadvantage of electric vehicles in the number of problems compared to traditional fuel vehicles. The study is based on feedback from nearly 100,000 car buyers or car leasers in 2024 and includes vehicle maintenance record data for the first time. The results showed that there were an average of 180 problems per 100 fuel vehicles, while the number of problems for pure electric vehicles was as high as 266, 86 more than that for fuel vehicles. Although new energy vehicle companies claim that electric vehicles have a low failure rate due to fewer parts and simpler systems, research shows that electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles have more problems in all maintenance categories. Frank Hanley, senior director at JD Power, noted that owners of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are three times more likely to take their gas-powered vehicles to service because of more serious problems. In terms of brand rankings, Stellantis' Ram truck brand leads with an excellent score of 149 PP100, followed by Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia and Buick. Porsche led the luxury brand rankings with a score of 172 PP100, ahead of Lexus and Genesis. Zikuai Technology |
