Serious security risks! 1 in 20 Android phones is rooted

Duo Security researchers have revealed that many industry experts and regular users believe that Android devices are not as secure as Apple's iPhone. After conducting a security study on iPhone models in BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) corporate networks, Duo researchers have now conducted the same study on Android devices. According to the survey, only 10% of Android devices have pre-installed "enter password" device encryption, which puts many phones at risk of data leakage if they are lost or stolen. In addition, 1 in 3 Android smartphones do not use the "enter password" lock screen function, which makes it easier for attackers to access the device. Among iPhone users, only 5% of users do not enable this feature. To make the situation worse, 1 in 20 Android phones are rooted, while the jailbreak rate of iPhones is only 0.4%. For Android, the biggest problem it faces is the fragmentation of its ecosystem, which is closely related to the attitude of major OEMs, who are often unwilling to keep up with the pace of Android version updates and are too lazy to patch and push updates for the system in time. This is a common problem, and Android users know it. According to Duo Security statistics, 20% of Android devices are still running Android 5.1.1, while the latest Android 6.0 is only about 1/3 of the former. In contrast, the installation rate of Apple's new system is much higher. It is reported that nearly half of iPhone users have updated to iOS 9.2. In addition, even 32% of Android are still using version 4.x. Since nearly 90% of Android devices are extremely exposed to the most dangerous Android vulnerabilities, major companies are reluctant to deploy this system in their networks. According to the data obtained by Duo Security, it is clear that Android is not very popular in BYOD networks.
