Is the era of NFC as standard on mobile phones coming?

Mobile NFC is not unfamiliar to us. In 2004, there was a mobile phone equipped with NFC, the Nokia 3220, but it has never been popularized. "The iPhone does not have NFC because Jobs thinks it is a stupid and meaningless technology , or in his original words, a scam." Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan recalled that one day in mid-February 2011, Steve Jobs complained about NFC with him. However, more than three years after the conversation, Apple launched the iPhone 6 with NFC function, and the subsequent launch of Apple Pay has become a vane for NFC usage scenarios. So is the era of mobile phones with NFC as standard coming? First, let's understand what NFC is. NFC is the abbreviation of Near Field Communication, the full name of which is near-field (or short-range) wireless communication technology. It is a contactless point-to-point data transmission jointly developed by NXP (NXP, a subsidiary of Philips) and Sony. It can perform short-range wireless communication between mobile devices, consumer electronics, PCs and smart control tools , and is compatible with existing contactless IC card technology. NFC mobile phones are mobile phones with NFC function modules. Through the NFC of mobile phone devices, many corresponding applications can be realized. So what can NFC on mobile phones do? 1. Mobile payment : Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and other Pay have come one after another, and payment is convenient and safe. 2. Access control : For example, if we have the corresponding verification code stored in our mobile phones, we can swipe it when entering the door, eliminating the trouble of carrying access control cards. 3. Data transmission : Put two mobile phones that support NFC function back to back, and transfer photos, music and other data through Android Beam. 4. Browse information : Put the phone close to public facilities with NFC function to browse information such as traffic, performances, and weather. 5. Smart tags : You can pre-set related applications through tags and then realize some preset functions after the phone is close to the tag. 6. Read induction card information : For example, bank card electronic cash balance and consumption records, public card balance and consumption records, etc. It can be seen that the NFC function on the mobile phone can bring me many conveniences and surprises, but why has it not become popular for so long? In short, it is nothing more than three aspects . First of all, there are problems in the industry chain. Various manufacturers in the NFC industry chain are competing with each other to become the leader of NFC technology, and the NFC device standards are not completely universal. At the same time, there are not many APPs developed specifically for NFC functions, and the application scenarios are limited. Secondly, at present, the domestic infrastructure of NFC technology is not perfect enough, and there is no recyclable business solution. Due to the huge risks, no industry giant in China dares to take the lead in investing in the popularization of infrastructure. In terms of implementation, if there is no national policy promotion, terminal devices that support NFC will not work for some small businesses and small shopping malls. The above problems directly lead to the key issue of NFC promotion-cost. The price of adding NFC modules to mobile phones has also risen. Most of the current mobile phones equipped with NFC are flagship products. For users, because there are few corresponding terminals that support it, it is difficult to be willing to pay for high-priced mobile phones just for this function. In terms of terminal popularization, for small businesses, upgrading POS machines and other equipment that support NFC means an increase in management costs, maintenance costs and capital costs. Although it is convenient for customers, it is not suitable for merchants. Although the popularization of NFC mobile phones still faces various problems, and it will take time to achieve full popularization, we have seen that Apple's Apple Pay has achieved a breakthrough in the single point of NFC contact payment, and has attracted many followers to enter the NFC mobile phone market with its own brand appeal. It is believed that as more and more enterprises, merchants and consumers join the NFC market, the NFC industry chain will be further improved, and the application and development of the entire NFC technology industry will achieve a qualitative leap.
