What is it like to have a 2GB per second internet speed? !
2GB Internet speed! That means downloading a high-definition movie is no longer a matter of minutes, but seconds. Researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), located in Saudi Arabia in the Middle East, have developed a new nanocrystal material that can turn blue light into white light. In addition to providing you with enough light, it can also make your Wi-Fi reach a speed of 2GB per second, just like the speed of light! Although Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies have been widely used in information technology, if the wavelength of electromagnetic waves can be shortened, the signal transmission will be greatly improved. If uncorrected electromagnetic waves are directly used for visible light communication (VLC), it will save a lot of energy in the future, the researchers said. VLC is a way of information transmission that combines lighting and visual technology. For example, a ceiling lamp that is connected to the Internet at the same time can replace a router. At present, the white light source of such VLC appliances needs to be provided by LEDs. However, their production often requires combining the original blue-emitting diodes with red and green-emitting phosphors. However, the speed at which the phosphor emits light is far slower than the speed at which the LED switches on and off. "Using this method to make VLC emit white light is only 100MB/s at most." said Boon Ooi, a researcher at KAUST. Therefore, the researchers abandoned the nanocrystal-based rectifier to seek higher-speed data transmission. The researchers also made lead bromide cesium nanocrystals about 8 nanometers long and introduced conventional nitride phosphors in a very simple way. When the blue laser is illuminated, the nanocrystals and nitrides emit green and red light at the same time, so that the three beams can be combined to emit white light. The researchers said that the optical properties of the new material they studied need to be characterized by femtosecond transient spectroscopy. They are also able to present the optical process of lead bromide cesium nanocrystals in just 7 nanoseconds. This means that light radiation up to 491 MHz can also be modulated, which is 40 times higher than that of adding phosphors. In addition, the researchers said that the data transmission speed can theoretically reach 2GB per second! The researchers also added that the perovskite nanomaterials in their laboratory can be comparable to today's LED technology.
