China's first electric balance car standard is released: speed cannot exceed 20km/h

Electric balance bikes have become a popular means of short-distance commuting for many urban office workers due to their small size and high speed. However, due to the lack of regulations in the past, many hidden dangers have emerged. For example, merchants can increase the speed of electric balance bikes, which were originally designed to have a maximum speed of 18 kilometers per hour, to 30 kilometers per hour or even higher, which is very dangerous for users and passers-by.

In response to this, several national institutions and e-commerce companies officially announced the establishment of the "Emerging Commodity Industry Standard Alliance" in Guangzhou yesterday. The content covers data cables, electric balance scooters and dashcams. The government and the drafters of the standards hope to improve the industry's self-discipline. Among them, the relevant items of the "General Technical Conditions for Electric Balance Scooters", which were mainly drafted by the Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, Alibaba Co., Ltd., Guangdong Electric Vehicle Chamber of Commerce, and Shenzhen Lexing Tianxia Technology Co., Ltd., show that the maximum speed of electric balance scooters cannot exceed 20km/h . At the same time, the supervision of electric balance scooter production and sales companies has been strengthened. According to reports, the "Emerging Commodity Industry Standard Alliance" was jointly established by Alibaba, Suning.com, brand owners, and domestic authoritative third-party certification agencies such as the China Electric Power Research Institute with the support of the Supervision Department of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the National Standardization Administration (abbreviated as "National Standards Administration") and the National Certification and Accreditation Administration (abbreviated as "Certification and Accreditation Administration"). The agency will also launch "alliance-level standards" in the fields of children's smart watches and eye protection lamps, and is expected to be promoted to national standards or industry standards.
