Programming languages are not only tools for developers to create programs and express algorithms, but also tools for creative encoding and decoding. Looking at the history of programming languages, we find a unique perspective that can better solve problems, and also promote collaboration, build excellent products, and reuse the work of others. About 70% of our customers send application logs to our service, so I'm very interested in tracking which programming languages are the most popular and which ones are winning the hearts of developers. Based on GitHub Archive and historical data on GitHub since 2012, we analyzed the most common actions taken by developers on GitHub and converted them into the following infographic. We can see: The number of active repositories, a useful proxy for applications in the project. The total number of pushes to GitHub per language and the average number of pushes per library. These metrics are used to measure the probability of innovation for projects written in a particular language. New forks and open issues in each code repository show the activeness of usage and innovation from another perspective. A new watch per repository, measuring metrics of interest to developers. |
