New vulnerability turns Android phones into trees?

Trend Micro reported a vulnerability that was marked as low priority by Google engineers . The vulnerability is located in the mediaserver service used by the Android system to index media files. The service will crash due to failure to properly handle malformed MKV files, crashing the entire system. The vulnerability can be exploited by luring the phone to visit a booby-trapped website or through malicious applications. It will put the phone into a vegetative state, that is, it will stop responding completely and cannot perform most functions, including answering calls. The vulnerability affects Android 4.3 to 5.1.1, which means that half of Android phones are affected. Trend Micro reported the vulnerability to Google in May this year.
