Apple fans, take note: Say goodbye to OS X and say hello to macOS

Apple has always been resolute about changing its name. For example, in 2010, along with the arrival of the stunningly designed iPhone 4, there was also a new operating system that was renamed from iPhone OS to iOS. But sometimes it can be confusing, for example, in 2011, after being called iPhone 4S for three years, with the arrival of iPhone 5s, it suddenly became lowercase iPhone 4s. Another example is that iPhone SE was capitalized again...

Recently, another new product is going to change its name: the operating system of Apple Mac computers is going to change from OS X to macOS (note the capitalization). This change is not hard to guess, because:

Apple's mobile operating system: iOS

Apple Watch operating system: watchOS

Apple TV's operating system: tvOS

Apple computer operating system: macOS

It is said that Apple will announce this news at the WWDC conference in June this year. Apple Insider, a media focusing on reporting Apple news, found the word macOS in the source code of the latest Mac computer system 10.11.4, and well-known Apple fan John Gruber also got a hint from Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of marketing, when discussing the name tvOS.

Apple's operating system was called Mac OS before 2000. After Mac OS 9, it was renamed Mac OS X (not X, but the Roman letter X, which stands for 10, pronounced ten), and the name became 10.x. In 2013, Apple even dropped the word Mac, and named it OS X with a California place name.

After this name change, the OS X(ten) that pseudo-Apple fans never pronounced correctly has become history.
