Early morning on November 29th, Beijing time, Google Fi is now available on more devices, including the iPhone. Google Fi was previously called Project Fi. It is equivalent to a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). With this service, you can use the services of multiple telecom operators and automatically switch between several cellular networks based on the quality of the service. For example, in the United States, if the device enables the Google Fi service, it can switch between Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular networks, and can also switch to Wi-Fi freely. Why is Google Fi so attractive? Because its pricing is cheap, and may be cheaper than the price offered by the operator. For example, in the United States, for only $20 a month, you can make calls and send text messages. As for data, it costs $10 per GB. It doesn't matter if you can't use up all the data, you can return it and get a refund. After 6GB, the data is free, but the speed will be limited when it reaches 15GB. Calls without Wi-Fi network cost $0.20 per minute. Google Fi has covered more than 170 countries and regions, and there is no roaming fee. Although it's easy to use and cheap, Google Fi isn't very practical because it only works with a few phones, namely Motorola and Google Pixel phones. Now that has changed. Starting Wednesday, any iPhone running iOS 11 or higher will be able to use it, as will any Samsung, LG, Motorola, or OnePlus phone running Android 7.0 or higher. However, the iPhone version of Google Fi is still in testing, so some features are not available, such as virtual voicemail, international calling, and you cannot make calls or send messages with your iPhone over Wi-Fi. Google Fi was launched more than three years ago, and on Wednesday it changed its name from Project Fi to Google Fi, which shows that Google will continue to expand its services. In order to attract more people to use Google Fi, Google has also come up with a promotion plan: if you buy a new phone through the Fi event, you can get a free travel gift card, and if users who already have a phone register, they can get $200 worth of Fi service points. However, the promotion is only valid on Wednesday. |
