Ren Zhengfei: Huawei can build a Hongmeng mobile phone system comparable to iOS in less than 2-3 years

For overseas users who are used to having Google mailboxes, maps, and browsers installed on their phones, this may force them to give up buying Huawei phones.

On September 19, Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of Huawei, was interviewed by Fortune magazine. Speaking of this issue, Ren Zhengfei said that the inability to use Google products would at most reduce terminal sales revenue by more than $10 billion in Europe. "For us, it doesn't have much impact," he added. At present, the United States is most worried about 5G and core network industries, and Huawei no longer needs American parts supply. Only the terminal product ecosystem will be affected by the US entity list, but "we believe that this impact will be completely eliminated in about two or three years."

The way to eliminate it is to build Huawei's own ecosystem. In August this year, Huawei officially released its self-developed operating system Hongmeng OS, which will be mainly used in the field of Internet of Things. Ren Zhengfei revealed that if Huawei continues to fail to regain support for Google products, it will take less than 2-3 years for Huawei to build Hongmeng OS into an operating system comparable to Apple's system.

In the interview, Ren Zhengfei once again discussed in detail the licensing of 5G technology to the United States. He explained two reasons why Huawei did this: First, from the current technology ecosystem, the world has established a balanced technology ecosystem with the United States, Europe, China, Japan and South Korea. On the other hand, the United States is still lagging behind in the construction of fiber-to-the-home as the era of artificial intelligence is about to come. If the 5G network also lags behind, the United States' artificial intelligence may lose its leading advantage. Huawei is willing to help the United States get to the same starting line; second, this is also beneficial to Huawei. On the one hand, it eases international relations, and on the other hand, it increases competitors. If competitors are not strong, Huawei will also decline. "When our company dominates the world in many fields, it may not be far from death," Ren Zhengfei warned.

According to Ren Zhengfei, Huawei can exclusively license its 5G proprietary technology, including a complete set of 5G network technology (software source code, hardware design, production and manufacturing technology, network planning and optimization, testing and other overall solutions), to American companies without reservation to ensure that American, European and Chinese companies start at the same time and continue to compete in new technologies.

This matter is also causing inquiries from many American social elites. Ren Zhengfei also gave the criteria for selecting authorized companies:

First, the company should be large enough to expand the market; second, the company should have some basic accumulation of communication technology, be close to Huawei's industry, and have the ability to modify the source code based on the technical solutions provided by Huawei. Ren Zhengfei emphasized that Huawei is sincere in wanting to do this technology licensing and will not keep any tricks or secrets. "We are open and transparent to the licensee. It's not that we are stupid, but that we want to make sure that Huawei's 190,000 employees face a strong competitor, and no one dares to sleep in."
