Tencent emphasizes the difference between WeChat and Wechat

Tencent Chief Financial Officer Luo Shouhan said at the second quarter earnings conference held on August 12 that the executive order issued by US President Trump focuses on the transactions of "WeChat" in the United States, an application launched by Tencent for markets outside China, and emphasized that the order is not aimed at "WeChat."

According to CNN, Tencent CEO Ma Huateng also said that WeChat and WeChat are "two different products." He called WeChat and WeChat "sister products." The former serves users in mainland China, and the latter serves users outside mainland China.

Tencent's WeChat and WeChat have more than 1.2 billion monthly active users, but Tencent does not break down the number further. However, analysts say the vast majority of users are on WeChat in China.

Judging from the situation many years ago, the Android platform can better reflect the difference between the two. Users can download the WeChat application apk format installation file from the official website, and can also install the WeChat application from the Google Play Store.

At that time, there were slight differences in the functions of the applications downloaded from the two channels. For example, a programmer user once said that the version downloaded from the WeChat official website would perform a full-scale xpose of the user's mobile phone, but Google Play regulations do not allow such code to scan user privacy.

In addition to this distinction, when you use a mobile phone number to register WeChat, WeChat will also provide different services based on your account. For example, one user said that after registering WeChat using a non-Chinese number, WeChat can call Apple's iOS system's CallKit to make WeChat call reminders look more like the system's built-in phone function, but accounts registered with Chinese numbers cannot use this function.
