Late at night on September 20th, Beijing time, according to reports from multiple foreign media, a U.S. district court has issued a temporary injunction, urgently halting the restrictions on WeChat previously issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce. According to attorney Cao Ying, initiator of the WeChat Users Association of America and founder of Yingzhuo Law Firm in the greater New York area, after the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a ban on WeChat, the association quickly submitted supplementary materials and requested that the judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California hold consecutive emergency hearings yesterday morning and this morning. Now, the judge has released court documents, asking the plaintiff's lawyer to draft a preliminary injunction document. After the judge modifies and signs it and releases it, the ban on WeChat will be temporarily suspended. Two days ago, the US Department of Commerce issued a statement saying that it has decided to ban the downloading and updating of WeChat and TikTok in US app stores from September 20, and prohibit WeChat from providing any services for transferring funds or processing payments in the United States. In response, Tencent said that WeChat might not be able to gain new users in the United States and that it would continue to negotiate with the US government. Tencent said it is further evaluating the impact of the identification of prohibited transactions on the group and has been and will continue to consult with the U.S. government and other U.S. stakeholders to reach a long-term solution. Regarding WeCom, Tencent emphasized that this is the overseas version of WeChat for Business, which is an internal and external communication management tool based on organizations and enterprises, and is completely different from WeChat.
