Android 12 has made a major redesign of the user interface, and Google is polishing the details before the official release. Last week, Google launched the Android 12 Beta 2 update for the Pixel series. One of the noteworthy details is that it makes it easier for people to grasp the length of the current call through the indicator in the status bar.
Normally, when you switch back to the main interface during a call, a notification will be displayed, showing the duration of the call, and you can click it to quickly return to the phone app. However, if you want it to be displayed, you need to turn it on in the notification settings. In Android 12, Google added a call duration "chip" (a pill-shaped UI element in Material Design) to the status bar, which directly displays the current call duration instead of displaying it in the notification center. Normally, clicking the "chip" can trigger an action. Presumably, third-party apps (like Skype, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.) will also be able to use the "chip" to display call time and set a custom action when the chip is tapped. Regular users can't try this new feature right now, as the current Google Dialer app doesn't support it. In the gif above, tapping “chip” does not open the phone app. This is a custom Magisk/Xposed module created by developer kdrag0n to try out Android 12’s new features. |
