What is Web Hosting? What are the advantages and disadvantages of shared hosting?

After the website is completed, where should it be placed? Obviously it should be placed on a server running on the Internet. However, it is difficult to apply for a service provider that provides free homepage space, and the cost of setting up a Web server by yourself is not small. Therefore, for individual users, multiple users jointly renting a server - that is, purchasing a virtual host has become a more realistic option for many SEOers.

What is a virtual host

A virtual host, also known as a "website space," refers to a certain amount of disk space allocated on a network server. Users can rent this space to place sites and application components, providing the necessary data storage and transmission functions.

Each virtual host has an independent domain name and IP address (or shared IP address) and has complete Internet server functions. On the same hardware and the same operating system, different server programs opened for multiple users are running without interfering with each other; and each user has his own part of the system resources (IP address, file storage space, memory, CPU time, etc.). The virtual hosts are completely independent of each other. To the outside world, each virtual host behaves exactly the same as an independent host.

Virtual host technology has greatly promoted the application and popularization of network technology. At the same time, the rental service of virtual hosts has become a new economic form in the Internet era.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Web Hosting

advantage

1. Flexible upgrade. For upgrading new models, upgrading computer rooms, operating systems, and automatically transferring data, users can complete the four aspects by submitting online without affecting website operations.

2. The price is cheap. A virtual host is virtualized from a server. There are multiple virtual hosts on one server. Although they share resources and their performance is not as good as vps and cloud hosts, their prices are much cheaper.

3. Simple operation. Many virtual hosts are equipped with powerful server log control panels, which can directly modify FTP passwords, stop websites, bind domain names, etc. Users do not need to understand the operating commands to complete the operations they want, which is very friendly to novices.

shortcoming

1. Sometimes the access speed of the virtual host website is not fast enough

2. There is resource snatching in the virtual host. If other virtual host users perform some operations that occupy traffic and bandwidth, it is likely to affect other users.

3. The virtual host has insufficient performance when dealing with large traffic volumes.
