17 Tik Tok tricks to predict how to make a hit

17 Tik Tok tricks to predict how to make a hit

In fact, this article is about creativity. Some of the following moves are fixed creative routines, and some are creative "thinking". Due to my limited talent and knowledge, I am unable to summarize an objective and systematic methodology for everyone, and I am really sorry. I will do my best to share the common routines, then use the common routines to analyze creative moves, and finally teach you how to predict how to shoot in order to become popular.

Recommended WeChat public account : Uncle Operation ( Operation, promotion, copywriting , marketing, Douyin practical information )

This article focuses more on the psychological mechanism of liking, and does not involve the psychological mechanism of saving, forwarding, and commenting. However, everyone should know that "likes, comments, reposts", etc. are all indicators of whether your video will be recommended to a larger traffic pool by the Tik Tok system.

How do Internet people use TikTok to realize profits, what kind of content should self-media teams produce to be long-lasting, and how to build a personal IP ? What kind of video content is more likely to be imitated ? What kind of content should Douyin users who already have a large number of fans rely on to become more popular? This will be discussed in detail in subsequent articles.

This article is based on my experience of writing video scripts for other self-media teams and the 2k+ videos I have liked. It is equivalent to a summary article - I am very limited by these videos.

With the help of the comedy books and creative books I have read, I want to write a guidance article later, which means that these ideas may not have appeared on TikTok yet (the summary naturally means that these ideas already exist).

When I watched these videos again, I found that in the early days of TikTok, this kind of human creativity was rare. Last night, I accidentally logged into TikTok with a new account and found that most of the recommendations were videos I had watched on the old account. But what surprised me was that among these recommended videos, the frequency of human creativity was particularly high.

I strongly agree with Professor Langer of Harvard University:

By the time the creative steps are written out, the creativity is gone.

Only the change of thinking is the source of creativity and the supreme magic weapon. But in order to make everyone feel that this article is more "dry", I will try to discuss it in detail, even the "conditions of use". If there are no conditions for use, it means that this is a kind of thinking. We should pay attention to it at all times and in all places when shooting videos.

Due to the limitation of the number and size of videos, I have merged or omitted many videos. Friends who are interested can chat with me privately on Zhihu.

1. Non-main content innovation

We have content we want to express and a subject and object, and we can express the object creatively.

People who are not interested in food making generally don’t watch it, but this video has its own characteristics - isn’t it the dubbing and copywriting that impress you? This is completely different from previous food preparation and was quite innovative when it first appeared.

If we expand our thinking a little, can we use the "News Broadcast Tone" or the voices of various film and television characters in Xudu Bar? (I believe this video production team is so good that they should have enough money)

2. Innovation in non-key processes

A process has important and unimportant parts. We have not changed the main process, but we can express ourselves creatively on unimportant content.

Non-key process innovation is more like good control of details and clever manufacturing of rough edges.

3. The joke-style twist

This is similar to writing a talk show, both of which are: preparation + punchline (the preparation can create an expectation, the expectation comes from the "core assumption", and the punchline is the reinterpretation of the core assumption - this is the orthodox statement in the talk show book "Hand-in-hand Teaching You How to Do Talk Show").

I would like to share two points with you:

  1. Douyin is different from talk shows. Douyin focuses more on performing arts rather than language arts.
  2. This trick is not only used in situations with plots. You can get results by using your wits in various situations. You must know that "speaking when no one is around" is the real creativity.

Comedy is written in the following way:

  1. Choose a setup and list the assumptions
  2. Choose a target hypothesis and find the connection points
  3. List other reinterpretations of the connection points
  4. Choose a reinterpretation to complete your laugh

4. Performance Subject/Object Substitution

The subject or object of the performance is replaced, hoping to achieve one of two effects:

Direct humor (parody, cuteness, contrast, desire, and other most primitive stimulations) - from what angles do we look for objects to replace them?

  1. hyperbole (exaggeration, or understatement);
  2. personification and anthropomorphism;
  3. Completely opposite nature (beautiful and ugly, fat and thin, male and female, old and young are the most common on TikTok) etc.;
  4. It has deep meaning (it may have no meaning originally, but you can add it, and of course you can also change the deep meaning. The deep meaning is the attitude).

Applicable conditions:

When there is only one performer (similar to Yangshengdi), you can try the first method, the first method of comedy: directly act cute and act ugly.

When there are two performing objects, either people and people, or people and objects, especially those with fixed routines that express fixed and superficial themes, you can completely deepen the meaning by changing the performing objects (objects in the case of people and objects) (similar to what's wrong with a boy spending some money). Of course, you can also use one of the techniques in method one. Isn’t the above “Please be careful when reversing” just an exaggeration?

5. Speak from personal experience

This personal statement is not strong enough:

  1. There is no desire to understand its identity;
  2. The copywriting gave me negative emotions (more than sympathy). Negative emotions will make people escape. I gave a thumbs up just out of sympathy (I didn’t finish reading it before I gave a thumbs up and swiped away)

What are the benefits of speaking from personal experience? This is a swap of identities and perspectives. If used well, it will be of great benefit.

Let me give you an example (this example can better reflect the beauty of personal experience): Many people on Zhihu share their experiences of postgraduate entrance examination re-examinations, and almost all of the respondents are students who have just participated in the re-examinations. Suddenly, a judge of the re-examination came and gave a touching answer. The amount of likes is very different.

I can now analyze the teacher's answer:

  1. First of all, this answer is scarce. I believe that all Internet users are well aware of the role of scarcity.
  2. Previous students’ answers have created an image of teachers as being “strict and having inside information”, and they all describe the re-examination as being very serious and cruel. The teacher himself portrayed a very friendly image and admitted that there was indeed inside information, but he expressed deep sympathy for all the candidates. (He shows us another side that we can't see).

Zhihu is also a source of inspiration, and I recommend all self-media people to make good use of it (another source of inspiration is comments).

Applicable conditions:

  1. Professionals that the general public does not know about
  2. Everyone is interested in this
  3. At the same time, it involves some personal identities or occupations
  4. You have some understanding of this profession (of course, I hope you are this profession)

6. Perspective substitution (this is a great trick, you can find ideas in the comments)

A perspective should have two characteristics:

  1. Different from others;
  2. Spread positive energy or create positive emotions.

  • Ordinary copywriting: I’m so ashamed that I’m not even as good as an elementary school student at flirting with girls.
  • Creative copywriting: If you were mothers of children, you wouldn’t be smiling so happily.

Zhang Jiayi's social posture was explained by someone saying that he suffered from spinal problems due to acting.

At the beginning, we praised the delivery guys and said how hard they worked. Later, some videos started to say, "Aren't we hard-working too? I got scolded by my boss, and I didn't have lunch until after 2 a.m. because I had to change the plan. He was half an hour late, and now it's almost 4 a.m. and I'm having lunch. Isn't my life hard?"

There is a scene in "Legend of the Cat Demon" as follows. If I shoot a video, I will take another perspective: most of the good-looking extras are professional actresses who usually perform in other plays to practice their acting skills. How can we compare them with ordinary extras? It's really not worthy of so much boasting.

When many good-looking post-00s were showing off themselves, a video suddenly came out that advocated justice: it said that the real post-00s should be doing exercises in school.

Too bad I can't find this video anymore.

When Hawking passed away, all the videos on Douyin were recalling his life's contributions. But later, some people criticized Douyin users for only paying attention to Hawking and ignoring Mr. Nan Rendong. In fact, friends who read Zhihu should also know the comparison between Hawking and Yang Zhenning.

The words are written from the perspective of not being able to get something and benefiting others:

  • There was a video of a mother teaching her son to cook, with the caption saying: I wonder if the future daughter-in-law will be satisfied with the son taught in this way? This is also from a different perspective, but a virtual perspective, showing a positive emotion that makes one laugh.
  • The guy below has a very nice waist and a very perky butt. Someone commented sourly: I wonder whose boyfriend is getting lucky again.

These are two different attitudes: towards the excellent things we have, we adopt a humble attitude; and towards the things we cannot get, we adopt a sour tone. This is a kind of fixed routine for "good things".

Applicable conditions:

  1. Regarding how to find different perspectives, sometimes you really can't understand it unless you are in the situation. As for how to cultivate this kind of thinking, I recommend Professor Ellen Langer of Harvard University’s “The Mindfulness Trilogy”.
  2. A common way to find a perspective is: if the entire TikTok has a strong attitude trend towards a certain topic or a certain person, you try to stand up for them. When the delivery guy says that he has a hard time, we speak up for ourselves; when everyone imitates Zhang Jiayi's social posture, we speak up for those who are being made fun of; when others show off their excellence (the young lady in Legend of the Cat Demon, the glorious post-00s), we pull them down from the altar and restore the real world.
  3. The last two videos are another set routine for outstanding things or people (the other routine is discussed in "Comparison").

Actual combat:

Sa Dingding's original work "Life is Beautiful" is so beautiful, and everyone is making fun of it. Can you please speak up for justice?

7. Conversion of subjective will

Just like the video of that internet celebrity ice cream uncle who doesn’t want to play with boys.

Applicable to: The active and passive relationship of a game or routine.

Example: The original sentence is “Little brother, do you want me to give you something?” Can we change it?

8. Add plot, continue plot or change plot

1). Add plot:

There are indeed many amazing operations in Tik Tok (such as technical skills), but if the background or plot of these operations is not good, we can add them ourselves. Because Tik Tok is an app that focuses on plot and attitude, simply being funny is just an entry-level level for people who make comedies.

Here is a book I recommend: The Comedy Bible (but currently only available in English)

2). Continuation of the story:

For videos that have already gained a certain degree of popularity, we will continue the plot in the following forms: anti-routine, plot development (subsequent plot), spoof, attitude response, etc.

There was a joke before: when a roommate returned to the dormitory, the other roommates sang “We Are Different”. If the plot continues: Can we respond from the roommate's perspective (pay attention to the combination of twists and other techniques)

3). Change the plot:

We did not add any new plots, but instead performed along the previous short part and changed the next part (this operation is very common among self-media teams). Most of the twists and turns above are original, and the plot changes are mostly based on already popular video themes.

We make changes in the hope that it will either be funny, or add some attitude, or completely change the plot (an unexpected twist). It can be said that many of the videos that are now going viral are based on very popular videos with modified plots. I hope everyone will pay more attention to the changes in the plots.

Don't just imitate others blindly. You can fully use your talents to change the plot and be creative.

This is not a fixed routine, but a move that can be widely used.

9. The power of rough edges

What we like are those beautiful things and emotions, but adding them with rough edges makes it unique. Rough edges are different from non-main/important processes. Rough edges are unintentional flaws that embody affection and truth.

Natural rough edges are rare, so we have to make them artificially.

10. The power of copywriting

A very ordinary video content, whether it is a dance, even two people greeting each other, or a back view, you can make the video touching if you add a text with a story and emotion.

Appreciation of girls' wonderful attitude towards life, approval of friendship, and lament for time.

11. Transformation between parody and seriousness

When the spoof is too much, you should be serious, and when the seriousness is too much, you should be a little spoof. There is too much cuteness, so why don’t you be more serious - for example, in the music “Master, I can’t hold on any longer” this is the voice of a child, can you add a younger voice?

12. Second-tier routine

The same person uses the second level of routine on the other party: the counter-routine.

The second-level routine has a very clear function, just like the second-level joke, which can greatly increase the probability of likes.

Applicable to: Those who have routines.

13. Comparison: Who is better?

Originally, this video was basically about: Are you guys in an online relationship? I am Shota.

Later, spoofs were added, and Tieguanyin, Guanyin and the like appeared. This routine is a very common talk show routine.

As it has developed to the present day, the routine is the comparison between two people (about the characteristics of their voices).

This is a fixed routine for people who want to show off their skills and superiority - you might as well try it with other skills.

14. Tutorials and Sources

The tutorials here refer to the tutorials of the already very popular Tik Tok videos, and the sources refer to the sources of those very popular jokes.

The first two are textbooks, and the last two are sources.

Do you still remember that sexy Indian divine song? Most people don't know what it means, but if you translate it, it should become popular.

If you can also make a tutorial for Custard Omelet Rice, it will probably become popular too.

Suitable for: Video content is very popular, and there are specific skills or sources that need to be taught.

15. Jump out of TikTok

I didn't say how to do it specifically, I just think it has value for reference.

Thumbs up for the hard work of Douyou:

Before, many people were wondering why others’ photos only got dozens of thousand likes, and then he took a photo of himself and it also became popular.

There are so many popular songs on Tik Tok, if you organize them, they will definitely become popular.

Many people shoot videos of others on Douyin, right? For my X fans series.

16. Creative ways to play with music

A lot of the music we hear is very popular, but most of it is the result of music teams collaborating with big internet celebrities. For ordinary Douyin users, there will basically be no waves when they look for a piece of music.

But we can pay more attention to the big internet celebrities in our daily life. When they shoot a video and use a brand new song, if you predict that this song is suitable for Tik Tok and may become popular, then you can shoot one as soon as possible.

98K——It is obvious that this is done by the game company for publicity.

If you have a certain number of fans, you can use some very popular music to make a video. It is recommended to make your own music. Many people will save your music later, and you will become the first release .

If someone were to arrange music and sing the poems in the Chinese textbooks, it would probably have a good effect.

There is a very common point. Everyone knows that they should choose suitable and nice music, but when it comes to actually choosing music, they still choose terrible music. To be honest, some music makes me feel numb instinctively when I hear it, and I believe everyone has the same feeling.

On the contrary, for many music videos, we will stop and listen even if the video is not good - the dwell time is also an indicator for the system to determine whether to push it to a larger traffic pool.

To sum up, the music has the following but limited ways of playing:

  1. Covers, male version to female version (Daughter's Love), electronic music to human voice (above), serious singing to funny singing (above Jiro Wang), children's voice to adult singer
  2. Adding plot to music (Danny should have a team now) and matching dance to music (finger dance, etc.) are more popular.
  3. Regarding the lyrics of a very popular song, we express our attitude (the above "What the hell, when you are in love, you are a piece of candy, try it when you are married)

17. Creative ways to use movie and TV clips

This is different from the song. We don’t recommend releasing songs yourself, but we do recommend film and television clips. For example: Aunt Rong's March in the Little Dark Room.

I originally didn't plan to discuss the music and TV and movie clips, but in the end I found that the creativity in them is really worth talking about.

I think the essence of playing with movie and TV clips is imitation. Normal imitation is the replay of the TV plot. There are a few points to note when imitating (the second point is particularly important):

  1. The object of imitation has characteristics (socially and culturally recognized)
  2. The imitator is fit to imitate the object - what is fit? That is to have an effect, either a comedic effect or a touching effect.

18. Take advantage of the hot spots

As a trick that everyone in the self-media industry knows, I really don’t want to write: Eighteen ways to take advantage of the hot topics. But I still want to remind you of this method.

By the way, I would like to remind you that graduation season is coming soon~ Let’s prepare our creativity

Example: The series of "My little brother gives you something" was originally about a girl sweetly flirting with a guy.

The changes in the series are:

  1. Boys flirting with other boys (subject substitution)
  2. The boy forces the other party to accept (subject substitution + plot change)
  3. The other person has a boyfriend (a joke-style twist)
  4. Suddenly I found a better-looking boy (a joke-style twist)
  5. Boys force girls to take photos (subjective will replaced)
  6. There is a not-so-good-looking little brother here (performance object substitution)

What kind of videos are taboo or have been played out?

  1. Confusing for the audience (taboo)
  2. Disappointing the audience: Reminding the audience to watch to the end but without any surprises (taboo)
  3. AV quality (taboo)
  4. PPT-style jokes (better if they are solid) (too much of a joke)
  5. Images downloaded directly from the Internet, such as QQ space, Tieba , Zuiyou , etc. (too many)
  6. WeChat chat screenshots - generally the ones I've seen are fake (bad)

Off topic:

My first inspiration for the creativity on TikTok came from magic videos. The original version didn't seem to be either of them, but everything else was the same except for the actors.

Originally, the experience of performing magic through video should not be the best, but they adopted such a unique form - disassembling magic.

If I have to explain it according to the creative methods I summarized above, it should be "personal experience".

But I am very interested in "how to show your talents that are not suitable for video performances" on Tik Tok. Everyone is welcome to discuss and I hope you can give me your advice.
