The United States investigates Tesla cars. Car accident analysis shows that automatic driving has hidden dangers and cannot recognize lights

Tesla is one of the most well-known autonomous driving technology companies in the world, but the AutoPilot currently installed in Tesla cars is actually only L2 level assisted driving, which is a long way from true autonomous driving.

Due to software function limitations and users' misjudgment of system boundaries, Tesla's AP system has caused many car accidents around the world and has been investigated by traffic management agencies in many countries.

Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States announced that it has officially launched an investigation into Tesla's autopilot. The main reason is that multiple accidents have shown that Tesla's autopilot has major flaws in identifying parked vehicles on the roadside, posing an accident risk.

Affected by the news of the investigation, Tesla's stock price fluctuated greatly, with the intraday decline once exceeding 5%. At the end of the day, Tesla's stock price fell 4.32% and closed at US$686.17.

It is reported that the NHTSA investigation covers almost all Tesla models sold since 2014, including a total of 765,000 vehicles. In the accidents investigated by NHTSA, a total of 1 person died and 17 people were injured.

NHTSA said that since 2018, it has confirmed 11 car accidents related to Tesla's automatic assisted driving system AutoPilot or Traffic Aware Cruise Control TACC. The main reason is that Tesla's system was unable to recognize the other party's flashlights, flamethrowers, signs and other dangerous warnings, and eventually collided with other vehicles.
