Less than a year after the last major update of the Android system, Google once again upgraded from KitKat to Lollipop, and both times used candy names, and the marketing purpose was obvious. When we first saw the name Android 5.0 Lollipop, we realized that this would be the biggest upgrade in the history of the Android system. So what unexpected changes does the new Android 5.0 bring?
1. New Material Design style Android Lollipop's new design language is influenced by many factors and is a bold graphic innovation. In other words, Google hopes that Material Design can bring users a paper-like experience. The new visual language draws on traditional printing design in the processing of basic elements, such as font layout, grid system, space, proportion, color matching, image use and other basic graphic design specifications. In addition, Material Design also advocates the concept of entity metaphor, using the texture of the surface and edges of entities to create visual clues, allowing users to feel real. The familiar touch allows users to quickly understand and recognize. In the design, materials can be used flexibly to create different user experiences based on the laws of physics. Finally, there are meaningful and more reasonable dynamic effects to attract users' attention and maintain the continuity of the entire system experience. 2. Support multiple devices Now, whether it is smartphones, tablets, laptops, smart TVs, cars, smart watches or even various home electronics, Google's Android system can be seen on the screens of all devices. This concept coincides with Microsoft's, which has previously announced that it will build Windows 10 into a unified system across devices and platforms to help itself out of the predicament. 3. New notification center design Google has added a new style notification system to Android Lollipop. The improved notification system will prioritize the information that is more important to the user and hide the less urgent content. Users only need to swipe down to view all notification contents. Another cool new feature of the new notification system is that you can view notification messages directly on the lock screen. Not only that, users can also reply or enter the application directly on the lock screen. In addition, if a call comes in while you are operating the phone, it will not switch to full screen, but will also notify the user in the form of a pop-up notification. 4. Support 64-bit ART virtual machine The new system not only brings great changes in visual effects, but also makes a leap in internal performance. First of all, the new system abandons the Dalvik virtual machine that has been used before and uses ART mode instead, realizing true cross-platform compilation, which is ubiquitous on ARM, X86, MIPS, etc. The ART virtual machine compiler has made significant improvements in memory usage and application loading time, and Google promises that all performance will be doubled. In addition, support for 64-bit also makes the ART virtual machine like a duck in water, and developers can develop applications for 64-bit architecture cores such as ARM Cortex-A57. Android Lollipop supports larger registers, new instruction sets, and increased memory addressing space. Future Android smartphones will support more than 4GB of memory. 5. Project Volta battery life improvement plan Project Volta plans to add new tools that allow developers to more easily find out why their applications have a greater impact on battery life, while ensuring that the impact on the phone's battery life is minimized when performing certain tasks. First, the Battery Historian can list the details of the phone's power consumption, helping developers identify the cause of power consumption or which hardware or task has a greater impact on battery life; and the Job Scheduler API allows developers to more easily choose the right time to trigger tasks with higher power consumption, avoiding updating applications when the battery is low or not fully charged. The above are improvements for developers, and at the user level, Android Lollipop adds a Battery Saver mode, which is similar to the Super Power Saving mode on Samsung and HTC. When the battery is low, the system will automatically reduce the screen brightness, limit the automatic background change and other functions. 6. New “Recent Apps” In addition to the changes in interface style design, the new recent application interface also borrows the concept of Chrome browser and adopts a separate tab display method. More importantly, Google has opened the API to developers, so third-party developers can use this improvement to add new features to specific applications. 7. Improved security Personal identification unlocking is still a relatively new smart concept. When a user's Bluetooth headset is connected to a mobile phone or tablet, the device can be automatically unlocked based on the current location or the user's voice. For example, when a specific smart watch appears near an Android device, it will directly bypass the lock screen interface to operate. Android Lollipop also adds this mode for specific special identification unlocking. In other words, when the device does not detect an available trusted device nearby, it will start the security mode to prevent unauthorized access. In addition, Android Lollipop also enables system data encryption by default and executes applications through SELinux, which means that the new system becomes more secure against malware. 8. Different data are saved independently Google said that Android Lollipop will have a new feature that allows users to handle all work and life entertainment activities with one device. This feature first saves various data independently and makes the generation of all new data have a basis. We have seen that Google has strengthened its cooperation with Samsung, including Samsung's Knox security system, which can also separate important data from other data like Android Lollipop. In addition, Google also allows support for Android devices other than Samsung. 9. Improved Search Google has focused the search function of the new system on "rediscovery", so this means that Google Search will be better aware of what users are doing. For example, the system will automatically filter irrelevant search results based on the user's current location. In addition, when users search for applications, similar or partial prompts can be displayed directly, and they can enter a specific application without having to enter all the content. 10. New API support, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Audio, multi-person sharing and other features Android Lollipop also adds several new API support, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Audio external speakers and multi-person sharing features. The multi-person sharing feature allows users to use other Lollipop devices to log in to their accounts and download contacts, calendars and other data from the cloud when their phone is lost, without affecting the content of other devices. |
