With WP officially announcing its defeat, Android and iOS have become the only two mainstreams in the mobile market. As usual, both sides released the latest generation of operating systems in the second half of this year, namely Android 8.0 and iOS 11. However, the new versions of the systems of both Android and Apple have not received unanimous praise from users. A large number of problems have occurred in both systems, leaving users confused as to what is wrong with Google and Apple? So what problems have occurred with Android 8.X and iOS 11.X? Why have both Android and iOS become so problematic this year? Let's talk about it together. What bugs does Android 8 have? In recent years, new Android systems have always paid great attention to testing. Starting from Android 5.0, Google will allow users to participate in the experience program before the official version is released and try out the developer preview version of Android. Android 8.0 is no exception. Google released the Android O developer preview, the predecessor of Android 8.0, in March this year. After nearly half a year of testing, Android 8.0 ushered in the official version in August, but even so, it still has many problems. Turning on WiFi will still use data This is a problem encountered by many users. Some people found that when using Android 8.0, even though the device is connected to WiFi, it will continue to use data. This problem is actually easy to solve. After investigation, it was found that the developer actually enabled the "Always turn on mobile data" function by default in the compiled version. Users can try to solve it by turning on the system switch. In other words, there is nothing wrong with the system function, but the system option is set incorrectly due to human negligence. Bluetooth connection error This is a problem that has caused adverse effects. After the release of Android 8.0, users immediately discovered that the system had serious problems with Bluetooth connectivity. Audio playback using Bluetooth would get stuck, the sound would still come from the phone even though the Bluetooth headset was connected, music played from Bluetooth headsets and speakers would only play for 20 seconds, and the shared Bluetooth would automatically shut down after being turned on. Once a Bluetooth problem occurs, the entire device may be stuck and unusable, which will undoubtedly greatly affect its use. Basically, the Bluetooth function is disabled after upgrading to Android 8.0. In this era of booming wearable devices and the Internet of Things, the importance of Bluetooth is self-evident. Smart bracelets, smart watches and other devices all require Bluetooth connection, and the cancellation of the headphone jack on mobile phones has greatly increased the demand for Bluetooth headphones. In this situation, the appearance of a major Bluetooth bug is really frustrating. Causes OLED screen burn-in More and more devices are starting to use OLED screens, but OLED screens also require the right methods to bring out their advantages and avoid their disadvantages. The biggest drawback of OLED screens is that they are prone to image retention, commonly known as the "screen burn-in" problem. This is because the luminous time of each independent light point on the screen is different, resulting in different degrees of brightness attenuation. However, Android 8.0 did not pay attention to this problem, which led to screen burn-in on Pixel devices. It has been discovered that in Android 8.0, the bottom Navigation Bar can cause residual images to appear on the screen, and this phenomenon may occur in just one week. In this regard, Google also admitted that it was an oversight in system design. In the Android 8.1 update, Google added an automatic fading mechanism to the Navigation Bar to alleviate screen burn-in. Emoji drawing error This is a rather basic mistake. In Android 8.0, some of the system's Emoji expressions were drawn irrationally. For example, the order of ingredients in the hamburger emoji was not correct at all, and the beer emoji was covered with foam before the glass was filled. These designs made people lament that Google's artists lacked common sense. In Android 8.1, the problem was fixed. Clear data after upgrading to Android 8.1 Android 8.1 solves the problems mentioned above, but does that mean everything is fine? Not really. Some users have found that upgrading to Android 8.1 will actually cause the phone data to be cleared and the system settings to be reset to default. If you don't back up your data, your important data will be destroyed. Google community managers released a statement saying that the problem has been fixed and apologized to users. However, the lost data cannot be recovered, and this is not a problem that can be solved by an apology. Multi-touch failure This is another problem that appeared after the Android 8.1 upgrade. Users found that the system could not recognize multi-point control, whether it was a game or an app, and could not recognize multiple fingers. Therefore, some operations such as pressing several buttons in the game at the same time and pinching to zoom in and out on pictures and web pages could not be performed. Multi-touch is a must-have in the touch screen era. In the early days of the touch screen era, the number of touch points supported was a selling point. Now this problem with Android 8.1 has made the most advanced mobile phones go back to the pre-liberation era overnight, which undoubtedly greatly affects the user experience. In addition, Android 8.X has some other minor bugs, such as the inability to install apps via adb, etc., which I will not list here one by one. Overall, this system does have many problems, and its stability is not satisfactory. What are the bugs in iOS 11? In many people's minds, Apple has always been the representative of high-quality software, and iOS is more complete than Android. However, in iOS 11, Apple has also failed, and many problems have appeared. So what are the bugs in iOS 11? Let's take a look. Touch screen malfunction This is a problem that occurs on iPhone X. Some users have found that when the temperature is close to zero degrees, the touch screen of iPhone X will fail. Many users were worried that this was a hardware problem, but it was actually a system-related malfunction. Apple confirmed that the problem was caused by changes in screen temperature and could be solved by software upgrades, and fixed the problem in the new system. Camera cannot focus The iPhone's camera design has more or less led the industry, such as the dual-color flash, long-focus and short-focus dual cameras, etc. However, in iOS 11, a system problem caused the camera to fail. In iOS 11.1, some users found that the latest generation of iPhones such as iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X had problems with autofocus, and the focus frame would keep moving back and forth on the screen. This problem was fixed in iOS 11.2.1. Infinite restart This may be the most complained problem in iOS 11. In iOS 11.1.2, many users' devices have experienced infinite restart problems. The problem will cause the iOS device to suddenly go black, then a "daisy" icon will appear and rotate continuously, and then return to the unlocking interface. This problem occurs about every tens of seconds, making the system completely unusable. According to observations, this problem is related to time. Once an app related to periodic time reminders is used, the device will restart once a time reminder is received starting from 0:15 on December 2. A temporary solution is to change the time on your phone to before November 30, but this will cause some security certificates to become invalid, making it impossible for users to access encrypted online services such as iCloud, WeChat, Alipay, etc. Apple took this serious problem very seriously and released iOS 11.2 on the same day to fix the problem. Many netizens said that this was Apple’s fastest iOS system update. Face ID failed to start Face ID is one of the selling points of iPhone X, but this feature is not always reliable. According to user feedback, after upgrading to iOS 11.2, Face ID does not work. Sometimes the system will prompt “Face ID Is Not Aailable, try setting up face id later” or “unable to activate Face ID on this iPhone”, and you need to restart the system before you can continue using it. Apple's explanation is that the system may have detected a problem with the TrueDepth camera, but since it can be solved by restarting the system, it is more likely a software problem. If you also encounter this problem, you can contact after-sales service to try to solve it. Input method suggestion error This is a problem that appeared in the iOS 11.1 system. Users found that after upgrading the system, the input method suddenly became unresponsive, and the letter "i" would be automatically corrected to "A?". Apple corrected the problem in iOS 11.1.1, but the input method is still not perfect. In iOS 11.1.1, the keyboard will display an incorrect correction suggestion after typing certain words. For example, when typing the word "it" in a text box, the keyboard will first display "IT" as a suggestion for quick selection. After hitting the space bar, the word "it" will automatically be typed as "IT" on devices with autocorrect enabled. Similarly, "is" will be corrected to "IS", and so on. HomeKit vulnerabilities The security issue on iOS 11 is quite serious. In iOS 11.2, a vulnerability that is enough to scare people into a cold sweat was exposed. This vulnerability exists in Apple's latest IoT solution HomeKit. Hackers can use this vulnerability to control smart devices in your home, such as smart light bulbs, air conditioners and even door locks, which means hackers can break into your house at any time. To this end, Apple urgently pushed a patch to disable remote access to shared users, but this also affected the functionality of HomeKit. Subsequently, in iOS 11.2.1, Apple officially patched this vulnerability. In addition to the problems mentioned above, iOS 11 has many other bugs, such as the shadow of the music player cover disappearing, the camera being reset to turn on Live Photo by default, etc. iOS 11 has also become Apple's most frequently updated iOS system, with small patches and large updates coming frequently. This makes people wonder where the Apple that strives for perfection has gone? Why are there so many problems with Android and iOS? As the two giants in the mobile market, Google and Apple have failed in the new generation of mobile operating systems, and the impact is undoubtedly huge. Android may have less impact because it only pushes apps to Google devices, but many users have experienced the poor performance of Apple's new iOS. Why are the new works of these two giants so bad? It may be related to the trend in recent years. In recent years, both Android and iOS have been seeking transformation. For example, Android is trying to solve the problems caused by its own openness and fragmentation. In Android 8.X, Google used a new system upgrade strategy "Project Treble" to separate the underlying layer and the Android framework, so that manufacturers can push new versions of Android systems faster without changing the underlying drivers. For example, in Android 8.X, Google brought a new background management strategy, which requires the transformation of the system mechanism. In order to catch up with Apple, Android 8.X has added a large number of AR-related features to create the "ARCore" platform. The workload of these projects is very huge. From all indications, Android 8.X is a rushed system. Android 8.0 has not even had time to support the "Visual Core" auxiliary chip in Pixel phones before it was pushed to the phones. It is not surprising that such a rushed system has various problems. The situation with iOS 11 is similar to that with Android. Apple has added a lot of things including ARKit to iOS 11 in an attempt to expand the scope of iOS applications. iOS 11 also needs to match and support more hardware, such as the depth-of-field camera for Face ID and unusual screens like the iPhone X. In total, the number of screen specifications that iOS 11 needs to match is probably the largest among all previous iOS generations. In addition, iOS 11 has also made major changes to the interface. Compared with the steady and reliable iOS 10, there are reasons behind the emergence of so many problems in iOS 11. The industry is currently in a period of rapid development of mobile Internet. If you want to get a share of the Internet of Things and smart wearable devices, you need to build a new platform through the system. This is a big challenge for both Android and iOS. Under the heavy pressure of engineering workload, it is natural that the system has more problems than before. Turning our attention to Windows, which is also undergoing a drastic transformation, we can see that Windows also has the same problem. Since its release, Windows 10 has not yet gained a reputation for "stable system operation". It is difficult to turn a big ship around. Whether it is Android, iOS or Windows, they have already carried too much weight, but their schedules are still updated once a year or even every six months. How to carry out quality control? I'm afraid this is a challenge they will face for a long time to come. Summarize The mobile market has now completely entered a situation where Android and iOS are competing for supremacy. For consumers, this situation is at least not stagnant and is not bad. I hope that while Google and Apple add more world-changing new features to the system, they can also be more strict with quality. After all, mobile phones have replaced computers and become people's most common electronic device. If the system has problems every other day, it will not bring a good user experience. |
