6 times of submission for review, our application's review journey!
This is the third time I have woken up in the middle of the night and looked at the message on my phone screen. However, the difference is that after 6 submission reviews, I can finally release the 1.9.5 version with peace of mind. This article introduces the review process of our application, and encourages us on the road of ASO . Application submission time: First time: August 25th Second time: August 27th Third time: August 30th Fourth time: September 3rd Fifth time: September 5th Sixth time: September 9th I have to add that when I saw this picture, I wanted to cry. It's not easy.

About the first review Looking at the submission records, you can see that the results were available 2 days after the first submission, which was unusually fast and the team was very surprised. My understanding: This should be the cleaning work before Apple’s fall conference, so it was done particularly quickly. During this period, if you catch up with such a fast application, after the press conference, you can return to rationality and wait according to the normal time. Don't have too high hopes for a 2-day review. We contacted the official by phone, and they never mentioned changing the existing review process. Of course, adjustments may be made in the future. About rejecting the submission for review after passing After the first review, the team discovered a serious bug. Uh~ you know, when something like this happens, you say "oh shit" a million times. The team finally decided not to release the passed version, but to reject it and resubmit it. Then, the terrible nightmare began~ About the reason for rejection I will directly post the reasons given by the review team—— Thank you for your resubmission. Upon further review, we continued to find that your app name to be displayed on the App Store includes keywords or descriptors , which are not appropriate for use in an app name. Specifically , the following words in your app name are considered keywords or descriptors: – 一站式美妆问题解决问题平台,订制私属妆教程Next Steps Please revise your app name to remove any keywords and descriptors from all localizations of your app. Specifically, – “一站式美妆问题解决问题平台,订制私属妆教程” We hope you will consider making the necessary changes to be in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines and will resubmit your revised binary. Please feel free to contact me at 1-408-783-3183 between 11AM-8PM Pacific Daylight Time if you need further clarification. Best regards, Vivienne App Store Review To make it easier to understand, let me explain in detail. The specific reason is the problem of keywords in the description of the title (also known as the subtitle in China), which violates 2.3.7 of the new review terms. Contents of the audit terms: 2.3.7 Choose a unique app name, assign keywords that accurately describe your app, and don't try to pack any of your metadata with trademarked terms, popular app names, or other irrelevant phrases just to game the system. App names must be limited to 50 characters and should not include terms or descriptions that are not the name of the app. Apple may modify inappropriate keywords at any time. The approximate translation is: 2.3.7 You need to create a unique app name and design a set of keywords that accurately describe your app. Don't try to package your app with trademarked terms, popular app names, and other irrelevant words. Apple may modify inappropriate keywords at any time. Everyone knows that Apple’s control over titles has become increasingly strict. Generally, long titles basically fail to pass the review, and many people have to reluctantly give up their titles when updating. The main reasons for application review rejection are: 45% of CP product updates are rejected due to title issues. 50% of CPs passed the review in one go during version update; 45% of CPs were rejected during product updates due to keyword stacking in the title; the probability of rejection during the second review was as high as 60%. Titles containing synonyms or words are likely to be rejected. The repeated appearance of the same keyword in the title description, keywords with the same or similar meanings, and keywords with exclusive or inclusive relationships are likely to be rejected during the review period. Let me complain about Apple's app review here. It is a completely black box process. The specific operation time is unclear, and the reasons for rejection given are only general descriptions of the terms and vague modification suggestions. The rest is up to you to try. Of course, we haven’t given up, we still hope there is a title description, so… hey… About Adjustment During the adjustment process, our operations through iTunes Connect are as follows: The third time, only the submitted keywords were adjusted; For the 4th to 6th time, the new title description was modified, and the versions used were: Meizhenie – A one-stop beauty and makeup problem-solving platform, with customized private makeup tutorials Meizhenie – A back garden that teaches you how to put on makeup and beautify your face, and where you can exchange beauty secrets with makeup artists Meizhenie – Customized beauty tutorials for you The adjustment process actually involved multiple rounds of back-and-forth communication with the review team. Because the reasons for rejection were the same, I once wondered if we had encountered a very picky reviewer. During this period, I called the Chinese customer service once and the American customer service twice. The customer service has not made any substantial progress. The reason given is that we are two departments and you need to submit it to the review team through the web page using your developer account. The submitted information can only be text and cannot include pictures. Some of my own little experiences First of all, if the review is passed, no matter what - whether there are major bugs or minor problems - in one word: go for it. Considering it from a human perspective, I have given it to you, but you still don’t let it go. What does that mean? I will make things difficult for you later, do whatever you want. Of course, Apple reviewers wouldn't do this; they don't have much time to spend on this. Furthermore, after the review is rejected, it is very likely that the difficulty of the re-review will increase, so you must take it seriously. Second, regarding the title description, if you encounter the same problem as me, you can directly remove the title description and resubmit it. This can also save a lot of time and energy, and then slowly polish future versions. Third, the word count of the title (including the title description) is controlled, most of them are within 25 words; the language is fluent and easy to understand, and do not pile up keywords; the title description is generally 1-2 sentences, with 14-16 words in each sentence; there are no homophones or keywords that contain a relationship (our application is likely to hit this point); the title description contains no more than 3 keywords (suspected to hit this as well) Finally, I hope everyone can go further and further on the road of ASO and understand more and more!
