2022 Youth Olympic Games postponed to 2026

International Olympic Committee President Bach announced on the 15th that the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games originally scheduled to be held in Dakar, the capital of Senegal from October to November 2022 will be postponed to 2026.

The International Olympic Committee Executive Committee held a meeting on the afternoon of the 15th. At a press conference after the meeting, Bach stated that at the suggestion of Senegalese President Sall, the International Olympic Committee decided to postpone the Youth Olympic Games after in-depth discussions with the organizing committee of the event.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many international sports events, including the Tokyo Olympics, have had to be postponed. Postponing the Dakar Youth Olympic Games will give the International Olympic Committee, national and regional Olympic committees and international sports organizations more time to make subsequent plans," the International Olympic Committee said in a statement. "At the same time, this will also give Senegal more time to prepare for an excellent Youth Olympic Games."

This Youth Olympic Games will be the first time that a comprehensive Olympic event is held on the African continent.
