New Zealand announces suspension of extradition treaty with Hong Kong (attached with original text) Another country follows suit! New Zealand suspends extradition treaty with Hong Kong

Another Five Eyes Alliance country followed suit. According to Reuters, on the 28th local time, New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters stated that in view of China's decision to pass the Hong Kong National Security Law, New Zealand has suspended its extradition treaty with Hong Kong and made some other changes.

Peters also reportedly said that New Zealand will treat exports of military and dual-use goods and technologies to Hong Kong in the same way as exports to China (mainland).

After Reuters reported the news, several Hong Kong media outlets including Hong Kong's Oriental Daily and TVB News also reported the incident.

It is worth noting that New Zealand's move makes it another country in the "Five Eyes Alliance" to suspend its extradition treaty with Hong Kong after the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.

At last week's regular Foreign Ministry meeting, China was asked for its views on the British government's decision to suspend the extradition treaty with Hong Kong, China. Spokesperson Wang Wenbin stressed that the UK's erroneous remarks and actions regarding Hong Kong seriously violate international law and basic norms of international relations, and constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs. China firmly opposes this and reserves the right to make further responses. Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs. No foreign country has the right to interfere. The Chinese government is firmly determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, to fully and accurately implement the "one country, two systems" policy, and to oppose any external forces' interference in Hong Kong affairs. Any attempt to interfere or exert pressure will never succeed. China urges the UK to abandon the illusion of continuing its colonial influence in Hong Kong, correct its mistakes immediately and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs in any way, so as not to further damage China-UK relations.
