1. Why is it so cold this summer?

This year, my country officially entered the beginning of summer on May 5 (Thursday), but the temperature in many parts of the country has not risen since the beginning of summer. Instead, there were a number of cold fronts, causing rare coolness in many places in May. The highest temperatures in some places such as North China, Shandong, Henan and other places even broke the historical lowest records for the same period, while the highest temperatures in Guizhou, northern Hunan, northern Jiangxi and Zhejiang were generally less than 15℃. So everyone feels that this May is colder than ever before. I remember that we could use a cool mat to put on the bed on May 1st last year, but this year the cool mat has not been taken out yet, which is indeed a bit unusual. In response to this, the National Meteorological Administration gave the following reasons for the abnormal climate:

1. Reason 1 for this cold summer: the impact of La Nina

Since the beginning of summer, many areas have experienced rare May cold. We should have worn short sleeves, but we were so cold that we were shivering all over and had to take out our autumn clothes and put them on. The key factor causing the sudden drop in temperature is the La Niña event. In addition, since November last year, my country has experienced a cliff-like drop in temperature due to the La Niña event, and the cold weather in May that has occurred today has also been somewhat affected by the La Niña event.

2. Reason 2 for this summer being so cold: Frequent cold air activity

Although it is already May, cold air frequently affects our country and the temperature fluctuates greatly. It is not necessarily the beginning of summer every May. Low temperatures can occur in May every year. And it just happened this year, so it feels a bit abnormal. In fact, the weather is unpredictable and no one can guarantee that it will be hot in May. In addition, with global warming in recent years, abnormal weather is normal. For example, some areas in the north still have snow in April, and this phenomenon will only become more and more common in the future.

2. Is there really no summer in 2022?

There is still summer in 2022. Because May is just the beginning of summer and it hasn't officially started to get hot yet. Generally, the hottest time of the year is in July and August, so summer hasn't officially arrived yet this year, so don't be anxious. Maybe this summer will be very hot. In fact, the weather in May is still cool and suitable for life. I don’t like hot seasons very much, but everyone has different ideas. However, we can accurately tell you that there is still summer in 2022, which will generally arrive at the end of June.
