When I think of promoting content online, I imagine an acrobat walking a tightrope between two skyscrapers, with no safety net and a blindfold. Such a daring act requires a great deal of experience, judgment, and balance to avoid falling. When it comes to content promotion, there’s a fine line between helpful content and annoying content. Marketers have been accustomed to shouting and broadcasting for decades, and it seems natural to repeat the same moves when moving to social media platforms. But you won’t gain any new friends by clamoring to your precious, high-quality fan base—because you’re just spreading a lot of garbage. As a savvy marketer , you should connect with your peers, colleagues, and your biggest supporters on social media and let them tell your story whenever possible. Here are 8 tips for promoting your content. 1. Find questions to answer Have you ever considered using blog posts to help people solve problems? It's a clever and ingenious technique. There are thousands of people asking questions on LinkedIn groups, Quora, and sites like Yahoo Answers. Find questions that you can answer and create a link to your answer blog post as a response to the question. This promotional behavior can accomplish two things at once: ● You’re using your content in a truly beneficial way. ● You attract new audiences and direct them to your content. ● You extend the value of your content because the answers have a long shelf life. 2. Make good use of social channels Your audience would rather spend their time on social media playing farm games , looking at pictures of sullen cats, and complaining about the government than being marketed to, sold to, and advertised to. However, if you attract some loyal followers who are interested in you and your business, they will be more likely to be interested in content related to your business. There’s nothing wrong with occasionally putting some relevant business news on your social media feeds. There are no hard and fast rules in this regard, as long as you don't send spam messages. 3. Link to content on other social media personal information columns LinkedIn allows you to insert links in your personal information column, and the overview and project columns are good places to highlight content. LinkedIn also has a slide sharing feature that can show the highlights of your PPT preview and blog content. On Facebook, you can highlight your podcast, blog, and other content in your personal profile. My Twitter profile contains a link that takes people directly to all my content. 4. Detonation clip Every blog post you write has something quotable that makes people want to share it because it makes them look cool, smart, and interesting. There are a lot of widgets out there that can help people grab your blog posts and retweet them on Twitter. You can also embed a short, easily referenced summary into your presentation. This way, you can promote your content and get people to spread your ideas right from their conference seats. 5. Link packaging Many bloggers like to organize and package their favorite posts into daily, weekly, or monthly link roundups. By searching for keywords like "link summary" or "weekly link summary", you can find all kinds of content links on the market. If you want to find specific blog posts related to your industry, just add a modifier such as "link summary" + marketing, or "link summary" + mother and baby . Reach out to bloggers and send them links to your latest blog posts. If you use this technique wisely and only send bloggers your best content, you will most likely prompt them to contact you. 6. Promote new content within old content Here’s a tip for introducing new content to your blog readers. Use a tool like SocialCrawlytics to find out your most shared content over the past few years. The result may well be that your best work is still attracting new readers. After you identify the most viewed and shared pages on your site, add links to your new content for some relevant keywords. Another trick is to embed your own ads into these popular blog posts to promote various services and other content. For example, at the end of my most popular Twitter posts (which still get a lot of readers every year), I included an image promoting my book The Tao of Twitter. 7. Join a content sharing club There are many sites like this where you can connect with other content creators to share and support each other's efforts. One of the more popular sites of this kind is Triberr, which is like a blog club where you can discover and share content in a mutually beneficial way. And this interaction will give more new audiences the opportunity to discover your content. 8. Send personal emails to other bloggers in your industry Adding a human touch to your promotional strategy can produce great results. If you have a great piece of content that you want to share in the blogosphere, find bloggers who have written similar content, compliment them, and suggest that they read your blog post on a similar topic. In the blogging world, “reading” is a euphemism for “sharing.” Write a personalized subject line and craft your email to differentiate it from the cookie-cutter formatted emails. If you make any mistakes in your email, such as addressing the person incorrectly, you will most likely ruin your chances of further contact. In your email, be sure to point out the specific connection between the blogger and your recommendation. Adding backlinks to their blog posts is a big hook.
